The Vaal River Student Village lies within the heart of the Vaal River City, one of the 5 new economic nodes for Gauteng, which has been announced by Gauteng Premier, David Makhura.
The “village” is a fully contained, green built, socio-economic, securistised system containing both residential and retail componenst. It will be built in a phased approach over two to three years, and on completion will be a mutli-billion rand project.
The Vaal River Student Village will be integrated within the new R11 Billion Vaal River City. Both projects are currently shovel ready and due diligence ready.
The Emfuleni Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) provides the infrastructure plan within which our student village will be developed. The LSDF provides for the upgrading of all parks and greenbelt areas, with walkways and cycle lanes.
Subways and bridges will connect these walkways and cycle lanes to avoid busy street crossings. The Vaal River City, which will also be incorporated within the LSDF, will provide 400 000m² office space, a 60 000m² lifestyle shopping centre, 25 hectares of green open space-as well as a bird sanctuary- on a 6 kilometre stretch of river front.
The Vaal River Student Village will be the first “green built” student village in South Africa adjacent to the North West University’s Vaal Campus, and within walking distance of the Vaal University of Technology. Over 30 000 students are enrolled per annum at these learning institutions.
